LIC AAO examination is the gateway examination for the post of AAO (Assistant Administrative Officer) in LIC. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is the largest Life Insurance Company in India having 2048 Branches and 109 Divisional Offices. Written exam is conducted by LIC for the posts of AAO.

Candidates applying for the exam must be aware about the paper pattern of the exam. Only knowing the exam pattern is also not going to help unless you have a systematic approach for clearing the examination.

  1. English section marks will not affect your aggregate score because English section is of qualifying nature.
  2. Candidates have to clear each and every section individually and these marks will be added to aggregate except for English marks. Thus there will be a separate sectionalcut-off and overall cut-off. The qualifying marks will be decided by the exam conducting body.
  3. There will be a negative marking of 1/4th mark for every wrong answer.
  4. It will be an online test.
  5. The cut off is usually high in the LIC AAO examination.

1. Have a fairer picture of the Exam Syllabus

The second step towards corroborating victory in LIC AAO exam is to know the syllabus and particularly knowing the types of questions asked in the examination. Candidates must go through the syllabus designed by the examination authority and also must go through the previous year papers to find out the type of questions asked in the examination.

2. Have Clarity about Important Topics:

This section tests the logical thinking ability of the candidates the topics that are covered under this section are verbal in nature.

Verbal consisting of topics like Number series, coding de-coding, arithmetic reasoning, directions, blood relations, analogy, decision making, etc. Candidates need to prepare these topics and practice as much as they can.

The types of topics covered under this section are Time and distance, percentages, problems on ages, Profit and loss, number system, LCM HCF, Average, SI and CI, etc.

Candidates need to put a lot of effort in this section. They need to be thorough and need a lot of practice to be efficient.



English section is usually easy if you are well versed in English. Even if you are not, you can still clear the exam. With a strategic study approach you can crack the exam. The important topics covered in English section are Antonyms and Synonyms, Reading Comprehensions, Spotting errors, Jumbled Sentences and Cloze test.



This is the section of unpredictable questions. But this section provides equal opportunity for candidates coming from any stream. This section can be broadly divided into two categories

  1. Current affairs

Current affairs are the events that have transpired recently across the globe. For systematic approach towards preparing this section efficiently is to study the happening over the past year from the examination. The sources that can come in handy are newspapers, magazines, internet and current affairs books. Around 60% of the questions are from the current affairs in GK section.

  1. Static GK

Static GK is the general knowledge about history, geography, science, etc. For preparing this just go through the previous exam papers and through the mock tests.



Basic knowledge of the computer is asked in the section. Candidates can refer to books on computer knowledge from bank examination point of view and go through previous papers.


3. Efficient Time management

The next step is the most important step for clearing the exam. Knowing all the answers in the exam will also not help if you don’t have a time management plan. Candidates need to manage their time by allotting specific time for each section individually and also to every question within the section.

Computer and General knowledge should be allotted maximum 10 minutes each.

English section should be given not more than 20 minutes as it is just a qualifying exam.

Reasoning and Numerical Aptitude should be given not more than 30 minutes.

Now allotting time for individual questions must be done by the candidates themselves because every individual has his or her own speed and efficiency of attempting the questions.

4. Attempt only what you know

Candidates must be very strict with attempting only the questions they are certain with the answer. Guesses will lead you to the deduction of marks as there is negative marking.

5. Begin With the Easy Part

Begin answering the easy section because it will save a lot of time and also boost your morale. There is no standard deinition of easy. Easy means what is easy for you.

Toppers usually begin with the Computer or General Knowledge section first. Do not give more than 20 seconds to a question. If you know then answer, attempt it, else skip to the next question. Then start with either reasoning or numerical aptitude similarly by answering less time consuming first. You can also choose sections based on your personal strengths and weaknesses.

Don’t ignore English as it is a qualifying section. You can begin by answering less time consuming questions like cloze test, fill in the blanks, sentence rearrangement, etc. Just give enough time to this section so that you can qualify.


6. Never get stuck

Never try to spend time on the question that you are facing trouble with. Just leave and move on to the next one. You don’t have to answer all the 160 questions, only the ones that you are sure about.

This approach will help you to not just pass the examination but also strengthen your aggregate score.
