Lakhs of candidates appear in the SBI PO exam every year out of which only a minor proportion of the candidates make it through the examination and interview round to get the job. Competition is becoming tough and tougher each year (as shared by Garima Chauhan). In these competitive conditions, it becomes very tough for the candidates to attempt SBI-PO exam for the 1st time and clear it. Under such circumstances, a well planned and exercised attempt strategy for SBI-PO Prelims and Mains is required.

To discuss a well planned and exercised strategy, Rakesh Malgotra is here with us to share his successful attempt strategy that he used in the previous year's SBI PO 2015 Prelims.

PrepLadder: What inspired you to take SBI PO exam?

When I was not able to find a well-reputed job after my graduation for 6 months, I started to look for the alternatives. Then my father advised me to prepare for government competitive exams. I analysed many competitive exams and finally decided to aim for the banking sector and especially SBI PO. So you can say that my father was my inspiration for SBI PO.

PrepLadder: What was your SBI-PO Prelims attempt strategy for the exam and how did you come by?

I tried many strategies during my preparation time, anyone who advised something, I used to apply that once for myself and if it worked out well, then I used to take the strength of that strategy and leave the rest. This is how I devised a strategy for me.

I went to the examination hall and started answering the questions when then examination was active.

I started with English section and I answered questions that I knew or could be easily answered like Sentence correction, Cloze Test, Sentence completion, etc. As soon as 10 minutes were elapsed , I jumped onto the reasoning section. By this time, I had attempted around 15 questions of English section except Reading Comprehension and Para jumbles which I saved for later review.

In Reasoning Section I started I followed the same strategy of answering easy questions like Syllogisms, Blood Relations, Inequalities, etc. except Coding-Decoding, Puzzles and Arrangements. As soon as 25 minutes were elapsed of the examination, I skipped Reasoning and started with Quant. According to my strategy, I needed to save ample amount of time for later review so I gave just 15 minutes for 20-23 questions out of total 35 questions that I completed in that frame of time.

In Quant section, my strategy was again same easy questions first, I did 19 questions in 20 minutes and then started reviewing the unanswered questions.

I had 15 minutes with me and I was sure that the questions that I have already answered, 90% of them will be correct. I had already answered on an average of 15 questions in each section which were enough to clear the sectional cut-off. So, I quickly started answering the unanswered questions beginning with para jumbles, I answered few questions from RC. Then Arrangements, Coding and then puzzles, I was able to answer most of the questions. By the time, I finished Logical reasoning section I was left with 2 minutes and in that time, I managed to answer only 2 more questions from quant.

This is how I attempted my Prelims exam, I got 69.25 marks in Prelims which was enough to sit for Mains exam.

PrepLadder: Did you take any coaching or join any online course?

Actually not, I did not take any coaching for the SBI PO. I studied myself and if I faced any difficulty in any topic, my elder sister was there to help me out. But I joined online test series. I practised regularly and took tests. I was able to overcome and polish most of my weaknesses. NO MATTER WHAT, you must always attempt online tests.

PrepLadder: Any advice for the young aspirants of SBI-PO?

My only advice to the aspirants of SBI PO is that always be focussed, Never let anything harm your course in any way. Pray and Practice hard.

We Thank Rakesh for his precious strategy for the exam which could be very useful for the candidates of SBI PO.
