Strategy for Simultaneous preparation of English

1. Prepare for the unexpected:

Based on analysis of IBPS-PO Prelims and Mains, we can see that the paper was a repeat of the type of questions asked every year. However, in 2016 SBI-PO exam, some new type of questions were seen in the mains. No Cloze Test, Parajumbles & Spotting Error questions were asked. This was highly unpredictable.

  • 7-8 Direct questions on Synonyms and Antonyms (not based on reading comprehension)
  • Out of Context (Odd one out from the given sentences)
  • Instead of Cloze test, Paragraph Completion questions were asked (fill in sentences in the given paragraph)
  • Combining of relevant statements

2. Keep Reading Comprehension strong:

Always develop the habit of reading English Newspaper, Editorials and Magazines on varied topics on a regular basis. This will immensely help you with reading comprehensions and in developing good vocabulary and improving your grammar skills. Try to read mostly online so that you can focus on the computer screen. From 2016 onwards, you will see differential marking in the Mains. Similar trend was seen in SBI-PO Mains. Here all Reading Comprehension questions carried 1.5 marks instead of 1 mark. Similar trend is expected in IBPS-PO Mains.
