You might not want to fill preferences according to the General Ranking, which is wise. Now you are wondering how to fill bank preferences in IBPS-PO admission form 2017 as per your personal priorities then you might have the following parameters in mind:

  • On the basis of Location/closeness to my hometown
  • On the basis of Company Culture
  • On the basis of Pay Scale

On Basis of Location/ Closeness to My Hometown

The next parameter in your mind when you fill your list of bank preferences for IBPS-PO 2017 is bank location. You should go for banks and financial institutions like Punjab National Bank, Central Bank, Union Bank of India, IDBI, etc. if you want to get posted in bank headquarters located in Metro cities.

Banks like Andhra Bank, Vijaya Bank, Indian Bank and Indian Overseas Bank have a good number of branches in the Southern part of India. So if you are from the south, you can choose your preference for these banks. Allahabad Bank, Bank of India, United Bank of India has its roots in the Eastern part of India, so if you belong to the East and wish to stay there, you can choose your preference accordingly.

If you are not in a position to relocate then, you can choose the banks which have maximum branches in your state. Please keep in mind that there might be limited numbers of vacancies in the Banks of tier 2 and tier 3 cities. Banks with maximum net profits would not necessarily pay extra salary even if they earn huge profits. But a growing bank would give you more growth opportunities and better exposure. Keep this in mind when you choose your list of preferred banks in IBPS-PO admission form.

Female candidates usually prefer to get placed in or near their home town. So they can take the above-mentioned point into consideration. You can also choose a bank which is recommended for its female friendly work culture.

 

On the Basis of Take Home Salary

We would like to state again that bank cannot be prioritized on the basis of their overall salary because their remuneration is almost the same.

 

Preparation for Other Competitive Exams

Candidates preparing for other exams like IAS, CAT, SSC and who want to be placed in a familiar location can consider the location of the bank in mind while filling the preferences. You can choose the location based on where your hometown is or where you have joined coaching centers.

 

On the Basis of Company Work Culture

Although salaries and growth opportunities are similar in all the banks but the work culture varies from bank to bank. You can take the help of your friends and other contacts to know about the work culture of a bank.

You should mark/fill your preferences in IBPS-PO 2017 application form carefully as you cannot shift from one bank to another once you are placed in a bank, unlike in IT companies and private organizations.

What If I incorrectly fill my preferences

Students should not worry if they fill their preferences in a different order than the ones mentioned above. Selection Process has become complex with the introduction of Prelims & Mains exams from the year 2015 onwards. The pattern of IBPS-PO has again changed in 2017. It is only the toppers who have more selection options. Thus, candidates are advised not to waste a lot of time on bank preferences at this moment but should rather concentrate on studying hard and performing well in the examination.

It’s your personal choice, in the end, to select which bank should be on the top followed by other banks in the preference column.
