PrepLadder congratulates Dr. Rahul Kashyap on clearing FMGE Dec 2018 exam. We wish him all the very best for his career and future ahead.
In this exclusive interview with PrepLadder, he shares his plan that worked best for him to help score well in FMGE.
Hello, please tell us something about yourself.
I am Dr. Rahul Kashyap.I graduated from Ivano Frankivsk National Medical UUniversity, Ukraine and I scored 214 in FMGE December 2018 and this was my first attempt.
What do you think is the correct approach to study for FMGE? Only MCQ's or Theory+MCQ's?
The correct approach is theory followed by as many mcqs regarding that particular topic you study.
When should the preparation ideally be started?
I started my preparation after I started the coaching classes but I always felt like I needed more time so I would say ideally at least 2 months before you start coaching.
Please list the books you studied for each subject.
I studied FMGE solutions by Dr. Deepak Marwah and I just relied on my notes that I wrote at my coaching center.
Have you attempted FMGE previously? If yes, what did you do different this year that lead to your success
No , this was my first attempt.
How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for FMGE and how much time should be dedicated for it?
Revision I would say is the key to success in this exam and the number of revisions don't matter but how well you revise matters a lot. No matter how easy is the topic without revision it's highly unlikely to pass this exam because we would end up making silly mistakes, and trust me I made a lot of silly mistakes as well. I revised 16 subjects at least twice. Last month and a half should be dedicated to revision at any cost.
Did PrepLadder play a part in your success? If yes, how?
I used PreLadder for the daily quizzes and the final 2 mock tests. It surely gives you an idea as to where you stand and what areas need improvement.
Did you use a time table/study plan to keep your preparation on track?
I just studied whatever was done in the coaching center on the same day and after all the subjects were done I made a time table with 2-3 subjects for every 5-6 days and started revision along with 100 to 200 mcqs each day. Time will never be sufficient but you must push your limits and make sacrifices for the last 2-3 months at least.
Were you a topper or a mediocre student during graduation?
No. I was an average student.
List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you.
For me, the most difficult was Orthopaedics, Pharmacology and Anatomy because they need very frequent revision.
One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for FMGE
Procrastination is the worst mistake , no matter how difficult or time consuming you must finish reading what was taught on that day on the same day or maximum by the next day.
Some last tips for our readers preparing for FMGE?
It is not a difficult exam just requires revision and persistence and also make sure your basic concepts are clear because the 2018 exam 2nd paper was very conceptual.
