How to Prepare for Quantitative Aptitude

1) Start With the Basics:

It is rightly said that ‘Starting with basics is the best start ever’. If you want to excel in QA preparation, make sure to start with the basics. Instead of spending time on complex problems, focus on the basic level questions initially. Once the conceptual clarity of each topic is gained, candidates must solve more and more questions.

Solving simple examples at first and then gradually moving towards the difficult questions would be helpful. The key to success in the QA section is getting your concepts right.

2) Master the Shortcut Techniques:

It is extremely important to get acquainted with the important quantitative aptitude shortcut techniques and master them to be able to tackle numerical questions more easily, quickly and effectively.

Time management plays an important role in the QA section and candidates have to solve questions in a limited time. Hence, they should find easy ways to answer questions in a simplified yet rapid manner.

3) Learn Formulas:

While studying, write down all the important formulas and try to memorize them. If you are unable to recall them while solving problems, learn all the formulas again and do the questions again the next day.

Also, make a biweekly plan for revision and allocate 15 minutes for it. Put up the formulas in front of you wherever you sit or carry them with you when you travel.

4) Solve Mock Tests and Previous Year Papers:

There can not be any best way to prepare for QA than solving Mock Tests and Previous Year Papers. Candidates should appear for as many mock tests as possible. Attempting mocks will allow the candidate to identify his strengths and weaknesses in the section and will give him/her a target to work towards.

Solving Previous Year Papers helps candidates in identifying the exam pattern, allotted marks to every section and most commonly asked questions in the exam. It also helps the candidates to evaluate their performance.

5) Focus and Improve your Weak Areas:

Solving practice papers enable you to uncover your weak areas. Once you are aware of your weak areas, make sure to concentrate on those by practicing more. All the weak sections must be given due weightage and regular efforts must be made to overcome them.

You can never be sure of being 100% prepared at any point of time and there is always some scope for improvement.

We hope the aforementioned tips will help you to ace the CAT QA section with ease.
