30 Days, 30 Marks Fight for GATE 2022

A goal without a plan is just a wish.

Every GATE aspirant desires to crack GATE with a remarkable score. During GATE exam preparation, students leave no stone unturned to ensure comprehensive coverage of the syllabus.

With GATE 2022 exam around the corner, it’s time to put your best foot forward and utilize the last month judiciously to turn your dream into a reality.

In this article, we will discuss how to make the most of the last 30 days to score 30 marks. Please note, we do not want you to score only 30 marks. We wish you get more than 30 so that your score eventually land you in your desired study institution.

Before we begin discussing how to effectively use the last month, let’s first understand the GATE exam pattern.

In GATE, 30% of the questions can be attempted easily if you have a fundamental understanding of the subject. If you happen to be an aspirant whose only aim is to qualify GATE, then we would recommend you to stick to the “30%” questions. All you would need is to memorize the important formulas of all the subjects.

General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics are considered as a “Rank Booster”. They can give a substantial push to your GATE score as we believe that these subjects are an essential part of every engineering graduate’s preparation journey.

You can sail through the GATE exam comfortably even if you aren’t fully prepared with the technical subject.

However, if you are falling short of time and securing an excellent GATE score is your ultimate dream, then we would suggest you stick to the concept through questions. This would be productive as you will be able to cover more concepts in less time.

How to Prepare for GATE 2022 in the last 30 days?

Since the last month is used to give final touches to the GATE preparation, it should be done cautiously as your preparation in the last month can either make or break your chances of cracking GATE.

It can even cost you an attempt if you take the last month for granted. Hence, make sure to use it wisely

Usually, in the last month, most of the GATE aspirants tend to feel nervous with every passing day and wish for additional time for their preparation (which is impossible). But if you double your efforts in the last remaining days, you can not only prepare but prepare more effectively.

Let’s understand how!

Cover the Last Lap Strategically!

Divide your preparation into two phases.

PHASE I Preparation (1st 15 Days)

Number of Hours Per DayMust Do Activities
5-7 HoursRevision of the concepts that you’ve covered already, memorize the formulas (Refer to a Formula Handbook), and important Mathematical equations.
2-3 HoursInvest in solving Previous Year’s Questions (PYQs) as they will acquaint you with the exam pattern.

PYQs are the perfect tool for practicing as they are prepared by IIT professors! (For students who just want to qualify GATE with only 30 marks.)

Accompanied by PYQs, you should also consider solving relevant NPTEL assignments of the respective subjects for a Pro preparation, as they are also prepared by the IIT professors. (For students who aspire to score more than 50 marks)
1-2 HoursAttempt mock tests. (They will help you to analyze your mistakes and help in time management)

Attempt at least 8 to 10 mock tests especially for Mathematics and General Aptitude

Note: Make sure to note all the important formulas and Mathematical relations that you come across while solving PYQs and attempting Mock Tests. It will enhance your GATE preparation.

PHASE II Preparation (Last 15 days)

The preparation in the last 15 days would be much different from the initial days. Here you would need to invest time, not on all the topics, rather on your strong areas and topics with high marks weightage.

Number of Hours Per DayMust Do Activities
6-7 HoursInvest your time to revise concepts and formulas (Refer to a Formula Handbook) of the subjects you have good command in so that you are fully equipped to execute it flawlessly during the final exam.
3-4 HoursInvest in solving Previous Year’s Questions (PYQs) as they will acquaint you with the exam pattern. Practice All Previous year questions especially for  Mathematics and General Aptitude.

PYQs are the perfect tool for practicing as they are prepared by IIT professors! (For students who just want to qualify GATE with only 30 marks.)

Accompanied by PYQs, you should also consider solving relevant NPTEL assignments of the respective subjects for Pro preparation, as they are also prepared by the IIT professors. (For students who aspire to score more than 50 marks)
3-4 HoursAttempt at least 7-9 full-length mock tests if your focus is on getting 50 plus marks.

Attempt subject tests and at least three full-length tests if your preparation is of beginner level or if you only wish to qualify GATE with only 30 marks.

Following the above-stated strategy with sincere efforts and dedication, cracking GATE 2022 won’t be a tough task for you. It is imperative to stay positive and not compare your preparation with others. Only then you can channelize your energy on your final goal of cracking GATE with a score that will make you proud!
