At one end it has a solid blade at right angle to the sha and on other end biflanged blade · Both end has curved p · Use of solid blade: Tissue retraction in  Appendectomy , Hernia repair , Thyroidectomy ,Mastectomy · Uses of biflanged blade -  It retracts end of incision during suturing.

Langenbecks Retractor 

It has serrated handle (for beer grip) with fenestration.  Blade is at right angle to shaft and p is at right angle to blade · Uses - Tissue retraction in  Appendectomy , Hernia repair , Thyroidectomy and Mastectomy.

Morris Retractor

It has serrated handle with fenestration · Blade is wider and there is concavity in blade (larger working area for surgeon) with curved p · Uses -Tissue retraction in laparotomy,. Retracts intra-abdominal viscus in intestine and kidney.

Doyen's Retractor 

It has curved blade, curved p and solid handle · To retract bladder and uterus in pelvic surgeries like Low Anterior Resections (LAR) and Abdomino-Perineal Resections (APR).

Kelly's Retractor 

It has hollow grip handle and blade is at right angle to the shaft with slightly bend p and crescent shaped lip · Used in pelvic surgeries like rectal dissection.

Deaver's Retractor 

It is a question mark-shaped instrument having a flat, curved blade with concavity · It is having long handle with a hook at the end→ Provide firm grip · Used to retract tissues and intra-abdominal organs especially in surgery like Open Cholecystectomy, Hepatectomy, Gastrectomy, and Bowel surgeries.

Farabeuf's Double Ended Retractor's 

It has flat solid blades at each end with curved p · Used for tissue retractions in  Dentistry , Wrist and hand surgery ,Hernia surgery.

Single Hook Retractor 

Used to li the skin flaps edges during o LN excision o Excision of Sebaceous Cyst and Lipomas · Used to retract edges of skin flaps in Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy.

Volkman's Retractor aka Catspaw Retractor 

It has multiple pointed sharp edges at the end → Helpful in firm retraction of tough structures · Uses - Retraction of tough structures like fascia in palm, sole and scalp . Retraction of skin edges during excision of cyst, lipomas and lymph nodes.

Joll's Thyroid Retractor 

It has 2 towel clip like forceps at the end, screw mechanism is used to adjust the jaw · It is self retaining · Used for retracting skin folds in thyroid surgery.

Doyen's Mouth GAG 

It has semicircular blades and curved p · Used to keep mouth open in intraoral surgeries like glossectomy, cleft-palate, interoral ranula, biopsy of suspicious lesions.

Balfour's Self Retaining Abdominal Wall Retractor

It has a horizontal bar in which one blade is fixed and 2 blade is sliding · Bar has screws which helps in fixing the 3 blade · Uses - To retract cut edges of anterior abdominal wall in hepatectomy and gastrectomy . 3rd blade is mainly used for retraction of bladder and uterus in pelvic surgeries like Low anterior resection (LAR) Abdomino-perineal resection (APR) in Carcinoma Rectum.

Beckman- Weitlaner's Retractor 

It is having blunt/sharp outwardly curving prongs when closed, the prongs interdigitate with each other · It is used to retract or hold back tissues or bone for exposure.

Scapula Retractor 

It is having wide right angled blade with fenestrations · It has long stout handle · Used to retract scapula during thoracotomy.

Allison's Lung Retractor 

It is having long, curved, cylindrical handle and blades made of wire · Uses - Prevents damage to the lungs during retraction, Esophageal retraction in Carcinoma esophagus.
