Just like Indian Administrative Services (IAS) and Indian Police Services (IPS), Indian Foreign Services (IFS) also attracts a large number of candidates every year. IFS is one of the most sought-after fields and is the administrative, diplomatic service under Group A and Group B.
IFS deals with the country's external affairs, trade, and cultural relations, and the members of IFS represent India on the international level.

Navdeep Singh Suri joined the Indian Foreign Service back in 1983. Having completed his distinguished 36 years in the Indian Foreign Service, Navdeep Singh Suri has served various diplomatic missions in Cairo, Washington, Damascus, Dar es Salaam, London, and as India's Consul General in Johannesburg.

Well, he opines that by becoming an IFS officer, you get an opportunity and privilege to represent your country on the international level and contribute to building strong International Relations. You also get the chance to promote India's national interest.
Passion, Conviction, and Commitment are needed if someone aspires to become an IFS officer, as per Mr. Navdeep Singh Suri. However, he also suggests aspiring IFS officers be open, social, engaging, and most importantly, curious to know about the culture and language of other countries.
