Introduction

Clearing the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is an important milestone for Indian medical graduates who have completed their primary medical qualification abroad. However, qualifying for the examination is not the final step toward registration and medical practice in India.

Eligible Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) must complete the required internship and fulfil the applicable registration requirements before proceeding toward permanent registration.

For FMGs planning their internship, one of the most important questions is where they can complete their compulsory rotatory internship. The availability of internship seats varies across States/UTs and individual medical colleges, making it important to refer to the latest official seat matrix rather than relying on older lists or unofficial sources.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has published the State/UT- and college-wise CRMI seats available to FMG students for Academic Year 2026–27, excluding Institutes of National Importance (INIs). This list provides a useful reference for candidates planning their next step after qualifying FMGE.

In this blog, we have organised the 2026–27 FMG internship seat matrix state-wise and college-wise to make it easier for candidates to identify medical colleges and understand the number of FMG CRMI seats indicated for each institution.

What Happens After Qualifying FMGE?

Qualifying FMGE does not by itself mean that an FMG can immediately begin independent medical practice in India. The subsequent process involves fulfilling the applicable registration and internship requirements.

Depending on the candidate's circumstances and the regulations applicable to them, the process may involve obtaining the FMGE Pass Certificate, applying for the required provisional registration, securing an eligible internship placement, completing the prescribed internship, and subsequently applying for permanent registration.
