• Refund Policy: Once the form is submitted and the fee is paid, NBEMS will not refund the amount under any circumstances. If you accidentally pay twice, the excess amount will be refunded after the application window closes.

The Big Update: 180 Questions & Time-Bound Sections

Forget the old 200-question format. NBEMS has radically shifted the battlefield for 2026. The exam is now shorter but significantly more stressful due to strict time limits.

• Total Questions: 180 Multiple Choice Questions.
• Total Time: 3 hours 30 minutes.
• The 5-Section Split: The exam is divided into Groups A, B, C, D, and E.
• Questions Per Section: Exactly 36 questions per section.
• Time Per Section: You get exactly 42 minutes per block.
• The Hard Lock: This is the most crucial update. Once your 42-minute run is over, the section locks automatically. You cannot go back. You cannot review skipped questions. You must move to the next section.
• Marking Scheme: +4 for correct, -1 for incorrect, zero for unattempted.

Admit Card & Application Errors: What You Need to Fix Now

Your admit card will be live on the natboard website on August 27, 2026. NBEMS will not send it via post. You have to log in and download it. But first, you have to ensure your application survives the scrutiny process.

What is Permanently Locked 

Once submitted, certain fields are frozen forever. Even the Edit Window will not unlock them.

Name Mismatch Protocols

Your name on the admit card must perfectly match the physical ID you bring to the centre.

• Got married or changed your surname? Bringing your Aadhaar is not enough.
• You must produce the official Marriage Certificate, Divorce Decree, or legal Gazette notification proving the name change.
• Without this, security will block your entry.

Wrong Photo or Signature Rejections 

NBEMS rejects thousands of applications purely over bad images.

• Your photo must have a stark white background.
• Your face must take up 70 to 80 percent of the frame.
• No glare on your spectacles. No dark shadows.
• Thumb impressions must be clear, using blue or black ink, and properly cropped.
• If your images are flagged, you will get an email. You must fix them during the Selective Edit Window between July 31 and August 10. Fail to do this, and your admit card will simply not generate.

• Blank fields in mandatory sections trigger automatic rejection.
• NBEMS does not entertain pleas or physical visits to their Delhi office to fix incomplete forms. Double-check before hitting submit.

Exam Centre Errors

• Test city allocation is entirely computerized based on your chosen preferences and seat availability.
• Your first preference is permanently tied to the state of your correspondence address.
• If the system bumps you to a neighboring state due to capacity limits, you cannot contest it. Do not waste time emailing the board to change your exam centre. It will not happen.

ID Mismatch & Exam Day Arsenal 

To get past the security checkpoint, you must have three things in your hand.

1. A printed coloured copy of your barcoded admit card.
2. A coloured photocopy of your SMC or NMC registration certificate.
3. An original, valid, non-expired physical ID like an Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, or Passport.
   • Note that DigiLocker documents are strictly banned.
   • If you bring an E-Aadhaar, it must be a high-quality colour printout where your face is completely visible.

Q1. Can I carry a rough pad or pen into the exam hall to calculate scores? 

No. NBEMS prohibits all stationery. No pens, pencils, erasers, or paper. You must do all calculations mentally. Workstations are blocked on three sides to prevent peeping.

Q2. Is a DigiLocker Driving License valid for ID verification? 

Absolutely not. The guidelines explicitly ban DigiLocker IDs and mobile phone scans. You must carry the physical, original government ID.

Q3. What happens if I fail to verify my Aadhaar biometrics at the test centre? 

Aadhaar authentication is voluntary but highly recommended. If you locked your biometrics, you must unlock them via the UIDAI portal or mAadhaar app before the exam. Locked biometrics will cause severe delays at the security gate.

Q4. Can I modify my category status during the edit window? 

Yes. You can edit your category and PwBD status during the main Edit Window from July 25 to July 28. If your new category requires a higher fee, you must pay the balance online before the window closes.

You have 5 sections of 36 questions. You start with Group A. The 42-minute timer begins. Once it hits zero, Group A locks permanently. The screen forces you into Group B. You cannot skip forward early, and you can never look back at previous groups.

Q6. What if my uploaded photo gets rejected during the final Image Scrutiny? 

You will be notified via the applicant dashboard and email. You then have a strict window from July 31 to August 10, 2026, to upload a new, compliant image with a white background. If you miss this, your admit card is cancelled.
