Let’s begin!
The state government of Maharashtra witnessed its first COVID-19 death after months. The patient was a 75-year-old man with a history of liver carcinoma.
This death is, however, not a recent one. The man died in July itself. The inclusion of his death in the official records took place recently.
Doctors at the hospital say that while the patient was infected with COVID, it was not the cause of his death.
A Lancet study reveals that targeted nutrition support has proven effective in preventing the rise of new tuberculosis cases among family members of TB patients.
The persons observed in the study were given monthly baskets of high-quality proteins and multivitamins. This improved diet reduced new tuberculosis cases by nearly half among the family members of TB patients.
US health officials approve the first-ever pill to treat postpartum depression. This pill is to be taken once a day for 14 days.
Severe depression after childbirth affects thousands of mothers every year. US FDA granted approval to the drug Zurzuvae for adults who are experiencing severe depression after childbirth or during pregnancy.
Researchers introduce a predictive tool that assesses patients' susceptibility to psoriatic arthritis. The findings of the study were published in Arthritis and Rheumatology.
The tool itself, named PRESTO, identified psoriasis patients who have a higher chance of developing psoriatic arthritis and therefore could benefit from preventive medications. PRESTO uses a mathematical model to predict and its model is available online.
And that sums up all the essential medical news for today!
