FMGE December 2025 Preparation Guide for Indian Graduates
Aug 20, 2025

Thousands of medical graduates who pursued their MBBS abroad have only one way to bridge the gap between education and practice in India.
Once you clear FMGE, you are bound to step into your role as a licensed doctor in the country.
The December 2025 session is especially crucial for those who either couldn’t appear in June or are looking at this attempt with a fresh mindset and renewed strategy.
What makes FMGE challenging is not just its vast MBBS-based syllabus but also the pressure of solving 300 MCQs in one sitting. Success comes down to two things: how well you can manage your time and how strong your recall ability is under exam pressure. The good news? With the right plan, smart preparation, and disciplined revision, clearing FMGE is absolutely achievable.

Understanding FMGE December 2025
The FMGE is conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). It is a computer-based exam with 300 multiple-choice questions asked from the entire MBBS curriculum.
- Syllabus: Pre-clinical, Para-clinical, and Clinical subjects
- Qualifying Criteria: 150 out of 300 marks (50%)
- Exam Structure: Single session exam, testing not just your knowledge but also your recall, accuracy, and stamina
This means that unlike other exams where deep analysis may fetch marks, FMGE demands multiple revisions and MCQ-based practice to strengthen memory and boost speed.
Ideal Timeline for FMGE December 2025
If you’re beginning your preparation in August–September 2025, you’ll have about four months to prepare. Here’s a structured approach that balances coverage, consolidation, and revision:
Phase 1: Coverage (6–7 weeks)
Start with the major subjects like Medicine, Surgery, OBG, Pathology, and Pharmacology. These subjects carry high weightage and form the backbone of your score. Dedicate 7–8 focused hours daily, with MCQs after each topic. By the end of this phase, aim to finish 60–65% of the syllabus.
Phase 2: Consolidation (4–5 weeks)
Move to medium-weight subjects such as Microbiology, PSM, Pediatrics, Biochemistry, Ophthalmology, and ENT. Alongside, keep revising the bigger subjects for 1–2 hours daily. Begin weekly full-length mock tests to test your readiness.
Phase 3: Intensive Revision (3–4 weeks)
In the final phase of your prep, you must focus on shorter subjects including Forensic Medicine, Dermatology, Psychology, Radiology, and Anaesthesia. This is the time to focus on intense revision and attempt a mock test once in every 4 days under the exam conditions.

Subject-Wise Weightage & Strategy
FMGE does not distribute questions equally among subjects. Here’s how to prioritize subject wise weightage:
- High-Weightage Subjects (must revise 3–4 times): Medicine (~33), Surgery (~32), OBG (~30), Pathology (~25), Pharmacology (~26), PSM (~30), Microbiology (~24)
- Moderate Subjects (revise 2–3 times): Pediatrics (~15), Anatomy (~17), Physiology (~15), Biochemistry (~20)
- Short & Scoring Subjects (revise at least once): ENT (~10), Ophthalmology (~10), Forensic Medicine (~10), Dermatology, Radiology, Anesthesia, Psychiatry (~8–10 each)
The rule of thumb: focus more on high-yield areas but don’t skip small subjects — they fetch easy marks.
Daily Routine for FMGE Prep
A disciplined daily schedule can make preparation less overwhelming. Here’s a sample timetable:
- Morning (7 AM – 11 AM): Big subject (Medicine, Surgery, OBG)
- Midday (12 PM – 3 PM): Medium subject (Pharma, PSM)
- Evening (4 PM – 7 PM): Smaller subjects (ENT, Ophthalmology)
- Night (8 PM – 10 PM): MCQ practice and review of mistakes
- Last 30 minutes: Quick flashcard or high-yield note revision
Follow the Golden 3 Rule → Read, Revise, Recall. This ensures concepts stick and accuracy improves.
Smart Preparation Tips
- Stick to one reliable source for notes and MCQs
- Focus on high-yield summaries, tables, and flowcharts
- Solve 100–120 MCQs daily and analyze mistakes
- Attempt at least 10–12 mocks before the exam
- Maintain an error notebook to revise weak areas in the last week
- Take care of your health—sleep, food, and mental calm are equally important
Mistakes to Avoid
- Starting too late and rushing through subjects
- Ignoring small subjects that can add 30–40 easy marks
- Spending too much time on one subject at the cost of others
- Skipping revisions — reading once is never enough
- Practicing too few MCQs
Last 15 Days Strategy
- Focus only on revision, not new topics
- Revise high-yield subjects every 2–3 days
- Take a mock test every alternate day
- Go through your error notebook and PYQs
- Stay calm, avoid burnout, and trust your preparation
