Smart Revision Strategy for FMGE—What to Focus on in the Final Weeks?
Aug 7, 2025

For all the FMGE December ‘25 aspirants out there, we know that there is still a lot of time for you. But, the sooner you start, the better chances you have at acing the exam like a pro.
We are here to guide you through the final stretch before FMGE so during the last weeks you don’t panic and get overwhelmed all of a sudden. Because honestly, it can feel like standing at the edge of a mountain, so close to the summit, yet uncertain about the final climb.
With time running out and around 19 subjects to conquer, you are bound to feel lost. And this feeling tends to creep on you, compelling you to push harder. But, the truth is, you don’t need to do more, you need to do what matters.
The last few weeks that you have before the exam should not at all be about exploring new things, but sharpening what you already know. If you know your way around smart revision, you can achieve success in no time.
In this blog. We’ll break down step-by-step how to structure your final weeks, what to focus on, and how to keep your momentum high right up to the exam day.

Focus on the 60:30:10 Rule—Sharpen, Don’t Scatter
Your revision must be deliberate and focused. The 60:30:10 rule is a proven formula that ensures you revise strategically rather than aimlessly.
- 60% of your time should go toward revising high-yield topics and core concepts.
- 30% of your time must be spent solving MCQs and previous year questions (PYQs).
- 10% of your time is for weak area brush-ups—the topics you tend to skip or get wrong often.
This structure ensures that you’re revisiting what truly matters, building exam stamina through active recall, and closing the gaps that might cost you vital marks.
Prioritize High-Yield Subjects (Don’t Try to Do Everything)
With limited time, it’s not wise to divide your energy equally across all 19 subjects. Instead, double down on high-yield subjects—the ones that form the bulk of the FMGE paper and are rich in repeatable concepts.
These include:
- Medicine
- Pharmacology
- Microbiology
- PSM
- Pathology
- OBG
- Anatomy
These subjects are content-heavy but also come with the highest scoring potential. Make sure your revision includes concise notes, frequently asked MCQs, and flowcharts or mind maps for better retention. Short subjects shouldn’t be ignored, but they can be revised more quickly using snapshots or summary tables.

Leverage One-Liner Notes, Tables & Charts
Replace volume with value. This is not the time to open textbooks or rewatch full video lectures. What you need now is high-yield, fast-access information. Rely on your handwritten notes or PrepLadder’s Rapid Revision content, Treasures, and one-liner compilations.
Focus especially on:
- Pharmacology charts and drug tables
- Microbiology organism-disease mnemonics
- PSM one-liners on screening tests, statistics, and vaccines
- Pathology classifications and disease mechanisms
- Anatomy nerve lesions, embryology, and important triangles
Use summary tools you trust. At this stage, familiarity trumps novelty.
Make MCQs Your Daily Workout
There is nothing more effective than solving 100-150 MCQs daily. But, only marking the correct option should not be your main aim. You must dig deeper by reading every explanation carefully, including the ones you answered correctly. This will give you a deeper understanding of the concepts.
Each MCQ that you solve is like taking a mini test. You can leverage it to condition your brain for the big day. While practicing MCQs, you must focus on logic, not guesswork. Revise the theory behind every question, and tag those that confused you for later review.
PYQs Are Gold—Treat Them Like It
If you haven’t already gone through the previous 3–5 years of FMGE questions, now is the time. PYQs offer unmatched insight into the pattern, the type of traps set, and the weightage of various topics.
Even if the exact questions don’t repeat, the underlying concepts often do. Identify trends—what kinds of questions appear in Medicine, which short subjects are often neglected, and how often image-based questions pop up.
Create a 15-Day High-Impact Micro Plan
A 15-day micro plan will give your revision a direction. It prevents the last-minute chaos and ensures you give adequate time to every subject. Break your day into theory + MCQ slots. Assign 1 or 2 subjects per day depending on their weightage.
Make sure you have:
- 12 days of subject-wise revision
- 2–3 Grand Tests
- 1 buffer day for spillovers
The key is not to overpack your schedule but to stick to it with discipline.
Take Full-Length Grand Tests (At Least 3)
Grand Tests are designed for more than just performance evaluation. They are the practice sessions that your brain needs. If you attempt at least 3 grand tests under the exact exam conditions, you are most likely to build stamina for 300 questions, improve your pacing and time allocation, and reduce exam-day anxiety.
After each GT, analyze your mistakes immediately. Don’t wait. Classify them into careless errors, conceptual gaps, or silly mistakes—and revise accordingly.
Don’t Ignore Image-Based and Clinical Questions
FMGE has evolved from pure factual recall to include clinical scenarios and images. In your final weeks, include daily practice for:
- X-rays, CT scans, ECGs
- Clinical signs (like Koilonychia, Bitot spots, or Cullen’s sign)
- Instruments and surgical setups
- Dermatology rashes and lesions
PrepLadder’s IBQ modules or flashcards can be extremely useful for this. Even 20–30 image-based questions daily can sharpen your clinical eye.
Resist the Urge to Explore New Content
This is the most common and fatal mistake. Seeing new PDFs or links in Telegram groups can create panic. Avoid the temptation to explore anything new. Stick to your trusted material—the one you’ve already revised. Now is the time to consolidate, not to wander.
New content creates confusion. Familiar content builds confidence.
Take Care of Your Mind and Body
When you have so much on your plate, you tend to forget to take care of your body. And if you keep neglecting it, burnout can quietly but surely undo months of your hard work. Every sleepless night can go in vain if you don’t maintain your sleep cycle and don’t stay hydrated.
Taking proper means, practicing mindfulness, doing regular exercises can do wonders to your body and mind. Remember: an overworked, sleep-deprived brain cannot recall even the simplest one-liner. And, in the last few weeks, you don’t want that.
Wrapping Up
The only difference between clearing FMGE and not being able to clear it is how smartly you revise in the final weeks. You don’t need to know everything, you need to master what maters the most.
All you need to do is keep your revision structured, stick to the plan, and use MCQs as tools. And, above all, never doubt the work you’ve put in for so many years.
You’ve made it this far, and the finish line is right ahead. Push through. You’ve got this.
