How to Motivate Yourself to Start NEET PG Preparations

Procrastination is something that we all do at some point of time. But letting procrastination overpower you can be tormenting. Applicants preparing for the NEET PG might get into a serious trouble if they are unable to finish the tasks that they wish they would have completed. It is easy that all of us get stuck at some point of time without even realizing it happening.

Unknowingly when we act as an Avoider, our head is shooting us with numerous logics that it is perfectly alright to delay the task indefinitely. Unearthing these avoidance tactics is just half the battle in conquering them.

Below given are the three common ways by which you may unwittingly delay the evitable.

  1. ENT Residency

Some NEET PG aspirants might think that they need to wait for the right time, enough physical space, etc. and wait for everything thing to work out on its own. Sometimes you’re waiting just because you’ve heard stories from one of your colleague that some senior prepared in just 3 months and topped the exam. Don’t listen to those stories, it’s a waste of time.

  1. Second Thoughts

Many candidates have second thoughts on the task they need to perform. They keep thinking that they don’t need to do it or they just can’t do it. Letting yourself get stuck in that position will kill your motivation to grab your dream seat. You can do anything you set your mind to. Persistence, smart work and some guidance is all you need.

  1. Best Output under Pressure

Some candidates also carry this misconception that they work best under pressure, and this has worked for them in university exams. Well that won’t happen this time. NEET PG is probably one of the toughest exams with the vastest syllabus. It can’t be cracked if you keep wasting time now and wait for when the pressure is on.

If you're a chronic procrastinator and wish to step out of your comfort zone, then below given are some steps to help you do that.

  • Create a “To Do” list

Though it may sound childish to some of you but this really helps. Make an old fashioned list of everything you need to do for your entire day. The list must include the listing of items like topics to be prepared separately, other tasks that need to be performed. Then preparing for NEET PG through the day, check off each of the items on your list. This will generate a growing sense of pride while monitoring your ever-diminishing list of projects. Focus your list on including the things you typically put off, not the things you are sure to do on a regular basis.

You can form time frames if necessary for concluding the tasks. Evaluate your list multiple times a day. This will prevent you from suffering at the hands of procrastination.

  • Finish the difficult stuff in time

If you have a giant or difficult topic that's bogging you down and leaving you unproductive in other areas too, tackle it first. Completing the largest item on the list is like winning over the difficult phase and this makes you extra productive in completing the other tasks efficiently.

If you need to do a topic which cannot be completed in one sitting then device your list in such a way that it can be completed in time with ease.

  • Two-minute task method

Whenever you come across something that you don’t want to do then just push yourself for 2 minutes for beginning the job, if you don’t feel like studying just get the books and start reading subheadings or looking into diagrams for 2 minutes, you will find yourself completing the topic. Simply force yourself for the next 120 seconds to be productive and this duty would push off for hours or days.

  • Take a break

If you are exhausted studying NEET PG topics and can’t focus, give yourself a brief break. Take a nap, go for a walk, or call your friend. Do whatever you like to do but keep it brief and return back to the studies. Breaks should not include a quick Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp or Instagram check because these things are addictive and don’t really freshen up your mind to start studying again.

  • Remove the distractions

Turn off your phone and get rid of any other distracting stuff while you are studying. Give your 100% to NEET PG. Do the things that you are supposed to be doing and forget about everything else at that point and see the procrastination vanishing.

  • Don’t be a perfectionist

Stop waiting for the things to turn favourable because that never happens. Stop thinking about the perfect way of recalling the topics which leads to procrastination and just start with it and then you will find yourself improving the things that needed to be perfected but could have been delayed if postponed.

  • Motivate yourself

Inspire yourself every time. Inspiration is what can help you to bring down the sky.

  • Do one task at a time

Avoid the habit of multitasking. Do one thing at a time and put all other things to rest. You can start and complete one subject or one organ from all subjects. Correlate subjects and organs during revision, but while studying take up things one by one and complete them.

  • Focus on the final goal

Whatever you do in the next 8 month keep your eyes on the one final prize. “A seat of your choice in a government college of your choice”. The small goals that you make should lead up to this one big final goal.
