PrepLadder congratulates Dr. Sagnik Biswas on achieving this unbelievable feat. We wish him all the best for his career and future ahead. Dr. Sagnik joined PrepLadder test series along with DAMS coaching institute for a holistic NEET PG preparation. In this exclusive interview with PrepLadder, he shares tips to help you achieve your dream PG seat like he did.

Hello, please tell us something about yourself.

My name is Sagnik Biswas, and I have completed my undergraduate studies from Calcutta National Medical College, Kolkata. I have attained rank 12 in the November session of AIIMS 2016

What do you think is the correct approach to study for AIIMS PG? Only MCQ's or Theory+MCQ's?

The present pattern of MCQs test both theoretical and practical knowledge extensively. They require sound medical knowledge and thorough understanding of clinical situations and how to manage them effectively. Hence a combination of theory and practical is probably the best.

When should the preparation ideally be started?

Strictly depends on the effort one puts in during his/her UG days. If you've been methodical and have clear concepts, 6-8 months are sufficient.

Please list the books you studied for each subject.

In all subjects I did the notes I obtained from my coaching along with references from standard texts like Anatomy: RS Snell Physiology: Guyton Biochemistry: Harper Pathology: Robbins Pharmacology: Katzung Microbiology: Greenwood FMT: Parikh Eye: Parson ENT: Dhingra PSM: Park Medicine: Davidson Surgery: Baily OBG: S.Balakrishnan, Shaws Pediatrics: Ghai

Have you attempted PGMEE previously? If yes, what did you do different this year that lead to your success?

Yes, AIPG 2016, WBPG 2016, CMC Vellore, NIMHANS. I was an intern during that period, hence wasn’t able to fully prepare or focus on studies.

How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for PGMEE and how much time should be dedicated for it?

It has an immense role. Just Knowing is not enough. Unless you are able to apply it, it doesn’t help much. You need to try apply your concepts in various types of questions and try to figure out what the question is trying to ask and test. This is of paramount importance.

Did PrepLadder play a part in your success? If yes, how?

PrepLadder has a very effective testing platform. The questions are a good mix of repeats and new questions, which mirrors the pattern of the exams now a days. Further, the questions have a predictive value, since I have seen them appear in different forms in various exams. The analytical section helps you assess strengths and weaknesses in an organized manner. Not only that, you can see the time spent on each questions, most importantly indicating whether you are rushing through a section or not. This helps in cutting down on mistakes. Plus, with an audience of over 50,000+, PrepLadder ranks give good competition analysis.

Did you use a time table/study plan to keep your preparation on track?

Yes, I did, but in most cases it was difficult keeping up with it. Would try to stick to it as far as possible without compromising on concepts.

Were you a topper or a mediocre student during MBBS?

Neither. Would be within the top 4-5.

List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you.

Easiest would probably be medicine and ENT. Toughest microbiology.

One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for PGMEE.

Giving into depression. Its very easy to believe that you can’t do it, or wont be able to succeed. It takes away the will to study and put in 100%. However, this is far from true. The ability to avoid this makes one successful.

Some last tips for our readers preparing for PGMEE?
