PrepLadder congratulates Dr. Medha Goyal on securing Rank-18 in NEET-SS. We wish her all the best in her career and future ahead.
To find out how she achieved this incredible feat, we spoke to her and tried to understand what it takes to attain such a rank. We would like to share excerpts from her interview so that we can all learn from her experience and use to score our mark.
Hello, please tell us something about yourself.
Hi. My name is Medha Goyal. I graduated from MAMC in 2015 and completed my postgraduate in pediatrics in LHMC in May 2018. I attempted the NEET-SS exam just after my college exams and got rank-18. I always liked neonatology in my postgraduate days and wanted to pursue the same.
What do you think is the correct approach to study for NEET SS? Only MCQ's or Theory+ MCQ's?
Both but more focus on theory as questions keep changing. But doing good mcqs gives an idea about how well are we actually preparing.
When should the preparation ideally be started?
I prepared after my MD exams which is likely an ideal time as we are already fresh with the theory which gives an extra edge. The time needed is variable for everyone but planning should be done so as to complete atleast 2 reads of Nelson line by line and good quality MCQs like from PrepLadder for completeness of preparation.
Please list the books you studied for each subject.
Nelson and Cloherty
Have you attempted any SS exam previously? If yes, what were your ranks then and what did you do different this time that lead to your success?
No, this was my first attempt.
How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for NEET SS and how much time should be dedicated for it?
I think revision is a must atleast once. Revision should be quick and 15 days are enough for the revision. Revision is better if accompanied by MCQs.
Did you use a timetable/study plan to keep your preparation on track?
Yes, it's important to plan but don't be disheartened if you lag behind as it happens with everyone.
Did PrepLadder play a part in your success? If yes, how?
Yes, PrepLadder was the only site with reliable MCQs from Nelson. Also, the app is user-friendly with options like tagging important questions and small notes given with questions with reference for a quick overview. And since it's an app so can be accessed anytime and you can do questions and actually get a boost to study more.
Were you a topper or a mediocre student during MD/ MS?
Mediocre
List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you.
There is no difficult or easy area as the questions it seems were made directly from Nelson which is a standard textbook for all postgraduates.
One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for NEET SS.
Not to follow the various MCQ books available in the market blindly as I think the pattern of questions in them and in actual exam is different.
Some last tips for our readers preparing for NEET SS
Read Nelson and do questions now and then from a reliable source. Trust yourself and give your best and you will achieve what you always desired.
We thank Dr. Medha Goyal for sharing her success story.
Best Wishes
With Love, Team PrepLadder
