A lot of Indian students go abroad to obtain a medical degree owing to fewer seats, stiff competition and high cost of private seats. But only a very small percentage of doctors with foreign degrees equivalent to the MBBS get to practice in the country legally.
Over the past years the level of the examination has definitely risen. The number of questions being repeated from AIIMS , AIPGEE & DNB have gone drastically low.
The pass percentage of FMGE is constantly decreasing from 28.3% in 2012 to 13.1% in 2014 and has decreased to a mere 6.3% in December, 2016.
According to the data a total of 7282 candidates appeared in FMGE December, 2016 out of which only 456 managed to clear the exam.
The toughness of FMG Exam is now of PG standards. It requires more skill set to pass than an MBBS degree. That is the reason the Foreign Medical Graduates welcome the governments decision to abolish the FMGE and instead make the Foreign Medical Graduates appear for the NEET-PG. It makes the exam more centralized and transparent, helping the FMGs.
Nevertheless, till this decision is taken students need to increase their level of effectiveness in the forthcoming examinations.
